Vitamin D is a
fat-soluble vitamin used by the body for a number of important functions. The most recognised use of vitamin D is its role
of assisting with the maintenance of bone health along with calcium. With age the body may not convert vitamin D from
sunlight as easily, so some older people may have a higher recommended intake which can be satisfied with vitamin D
supplements. Other factors that make it harder to synthesise vitamin D includes limited sunlight exposure caused by shorter
days in winter and sunscreen in summer.
